About Adaptation

Adaptation is a mental health practice dedicated to providing high quality services to individuals suffering from depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, and those suffering from co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.  Adaptation is open to referrals, inquiries for resource information, and training requests from other medical, addictions, mental health, and wellness professionals.

Treatment Approach

Adaptation’s primary interventions utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral techniques that have a substantial body of research supporting their effectiveness in the treatment of anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, and substance use disorders.

Substance Abuse Consultations

A substance abuse consultation can be an invaluable tool for medical, mental health, and wellness practitioners who are concerned that an individual whom they are treating may be abusing drugs or alcohol.  Persistent substance use can make physical, emotional, and relational problems nearly impossible to treat and without the appropriate tools it can be very difficult to intervene.  Adaptation’s consultation service offers an effective way to help target your clients’ substance use without interfering with your treatment process.

substance abuse consultation consists of approximately five sessions that will include an initial evaluation and a personal feedback report covering risk factors for developing chemical dependence, substance use in comparison to the general population, severity of consequences experienced from drug or alcohol use, risks at peak levels of alcohol intoxication, a profile of prominent triggers to drug or alcohol use, and overall levels of motivation for change.  This brief intervention, based on a Motivational Interviewing approach, has been shown by itself to be effective in helping many individuals make significant changes in their drug and alcohol use and can provide you with invaluable information.

Long Term Collaboration

If you have a client or patient with a chronic substance abuse problem and would like to have him or her in concurrent substance abuse treatment, consider contacting Adaptation.  Adaptation enjoys working closely with others and is very responsive to input regarding treatment.  Because Adaptation sees a limited number of clients, each client receives personal care and you never have to worry that your client will fall through the cracks.  Adaptation is also happy to provide you with reports on your client’s progress so you know what is going on and you can feel confident that your client is receiving the highest quality services.  If you have a case on which you would like to explore collaboration, please contact Adaptation to discuss the options available.

Support for Clients with Co-Occurring Disorders

Many people find that psychiatric symptoms which occur during periods of alcohol or drug use resolve when substance use stops. Unfortunately, some individuals struggle with pre-existing mental health issues, while others develop problems during their substance use that persist even after abstinence. For these individuals, mental health symptoms can become a source of great suffering and can contribute to unnecessary relapses. Adaptation understands the unique issues of individuals who suffer from co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders and can help you effectively serve their needs.

In addition, at Adaptation, you can trust that the seriousness of your client’s addiction history will be respected as a primary issue and that his/her recovery efforts will continue to be supported. If a client relapses for any reason, Adaptation can both address the substance use directly and, if appropriate, help your client to engage in more intensive addiction treatment services quickly before disaster strikes. In cases where medication is truly necessary, Adaptation provides referrals only to psychiatrists with significant addictions experience who can help find safe, effective ways to treat the client. If you have clients whom you believe suffer from co-occurring mental health and substance use issues and need additional support, consider referring them to Adaptation so they can receive the care they need in a safe environment.
